Located in southwestern South Carolina and part of the Augusta, GA MSA, Aiken County is a dynamic, growing and progressive community. The county has a council/administrator form of government with a nine-member governing board. This position reports directly to the County Administrator.

Under little or no direct supervision, plans, directs and supervises the activities and programs of the Planning & Development Department. Ensures departmental compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, codes, ordinances, policies, procedures and standards.

Interacts and communicates with the County Administrator, County Council, other County department heads and personnel, subordinates, Planning Commission members, members of other boards /commissions / committees, elected officials, developers, community leaders, engineers, surveyors, attorneys, consultants, news media, property owners, and the general public.

Minimum Training and Experience:
Master's degree in urban and regional planning or public administration, supplemented by five to six years of local government planning experience, three of which have been in a managerial capacity, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. AICP Certification preferred. Must possess a valid driver's license.

GIS Planner (Entry Level Position)

Candidate filling this position has primary responsibility for importing and exporting data from various file types, creating and updating geodatabases, working with shapefiles, and using Microsoft Access to edit, manipulate and query geodatabases in ArcGIC 9.2. The position also involves providing other professional staff with research and mapping assistance on a variety of planning projects and maintaining and updating information on websites.

Candidate must possess a bachelor's degree in computer science, urban planning or a related field and one year of professional experience. The salary is commensurate with experience and training.
